Complete network setup guide for Canon printers with wired and wireless connectivity options

Initial Setup

Unpack and Prepare

  • Remove all packaging materials and orange tape
  • Connect the power cord and turn on the printer
  • Select language, country, and date/time on the display
  • Install ink cartridges and load paper into the cassette
  • Wait for the printer to complete initialization

Connection Methods

Wireless Network Connection

Tip: Place your printer within range of your Wi-Fi router for best signal strength.

Using Printer Control Panel

  • Press the Setup button (wrench icon) on the printer
  • Navigate to Device settings > LAN settings > Wireless LAN setup
  • Select "Standard setup" to search for networks
  • Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard
  • Wait for the connection to establish (indicator lamp stops flashing)

Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

  • Ensure your router supports WPS
  • Press and hold the WPS button on your router for 3 seconds
  • Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer
  • Release when the Wi-Fi lamp flashes
  • Wait for automatic connection to complete

Using Canon Software

  • Download and install Canon IJ Printer Assistant Tool
  • Run the setup wizard and select "Wireless LAN connection"
  • Follow the guided setup process
  • Test the connection when prompted

Wired Network Connection

Ethernet Setup

  • Connect an Ethernet cable from router to printer's LAN port
  • The printer should automatically obtain an IP address
  • Print a network configuration page to verify connection
  • Note the IP address for driver installation

Network Troubleshooting

Printer Not Found on Network

Solution: Check Wi-Fi connection, restart router and printer, ensure both are on same network, verify network name and password.

Wi-Fi Connection Drops

Solution: Move printer closer to router, check for interference, update router firmware, use 2.4GHz network if available.

Cannot Connect to Specific Network

Solution: Check if network is hidden, verify security type (WPA/WEP), ensure password is correct, restart network equipment.

Ethernet Not Working

Solution: Check cable connection, verify router port works, test with different cable, check DHCP settings, try manual IP configuration.

Mobile Printing Issues

Solution: Update Canon PRINT app, ensure same network, restart mobile device, check printer firmware, reset app settings.

Firewall Blocking Connection

Solution: Add printer IP to firewall exceptions, disable firewall temporarily to test, check antivirus software settings.

Printer Sharing

Windows Printer Sharing

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners
  • Right-click your Canon printer and select "Printer properties"
  • Go to Sharing tab and check "Share this printer"
  • Set a share name and click OK
  • Other computers can now connect to \\computername\sharename

Network Discovery

  • Ensure network discovery is enabled on all computers
  • Check that all devices are on same workgroup
  • Verify firewall allows file and printer sharing
  • Test sharing from another computer on the network
